Racing Incident Report

DASH AHEAD was presented in the Parade Ring with a shadow roll which was not part of the horse’s declared gear. The shadow roll was removed from DASH AHEAD prior to the horse leaving the Parade Ring. Mr L Ho, trainer of DASH AHEAD, was fined $3,000 for presenting the horse in the Parade Ring with other than its approved gear. After arriving at the Start, the tongue tie fitted to SEA TREASURE was adjusted. On jumping, CRYSTAL blundered. Also on jumping, from a wide barrier, RICH DRAGON was taken back. Making the turn out of the Straight on the first occasion, ROCKET WIN was steadied away from the heels of POS TRUMPS. In the early stages, GOLDEN TREASURE travelled wide and without cover. At the 1000 Metres, GLOBAL WIN was steadied away from the heels of CRYSTAL. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, AMPLE GAINS was checked when crowded for room inside CRYSTAL which had its head on the side and was shifting in away from FAIR WIN and at the same time became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of TERRIFIC BRETHREN which bounded in the air after making contact with the running rail. POS TRUMPS, which was following, was checked in consequence. No action was taken. Making the Home Turn, ROCKET WIN hung out. On straightening, NICE KING was carried wider by CENTURY SUPER STAR which shifted out to obtain clear running. In the Straight, TERRIFIC BRETHREN hung in. For the major part of the race, FAIR WIN travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, K T Yeung (DYNAMIC), which was having its first race start in Hong Kong today, said it was anticipated his mount would travel in a position around midfield. He said after being boxed DYNAMIC appeared nervous in its stall, then when the gates opened was slow to begin and shortly afterwards lost further ground when crowded for room between CRYSTAL and AMPLE GAINS. He said as a consequence DYNAMIC dropped to the rear. He said after losing ground at the start, he allowed his mount to regain its balance and he anticipated it would gradually pick up the bridle, however, it initially failed to do so and in the early and middle stages travelled detached from the main body of the field. He said after the 1000 Metres DYNAMIC gradually commenced to improve its position and at the 800 Metres tacked onto the field. He said after the 600 Metres he initially shifted DYNAMIC away from the rail as he considered improving his position wider on the track, however, it soon became apparent to him that due to the field bunching he would have to shift DYNAMIC very wide and therefore decided to shift back to race on the rail around the Home Turn. He said on straightening he had to momentarily steady away from the heels of SEA TREASURE and he then commenced to ride his mount along hands and heels. He said DYNAMIC responded strongly and he then at the 300 Metres commenced to ride his mount with the whip in the right hand. He said DYNAMIC continued to make good ground, however, inside the 200 Metres he was obliged to steady his mount when it was momentarily crowded for room inside TERRIFIC BRETHREN. He said when this pressure was relieved, he recommenced riding his mount out and it closed the race off strongly. Mr T K Ng, trainer of DYNAMIC, confirmed the riding instructions issued and said he felt from what DYNAMIC had shown him on the track, the horse would be able to travel in a midfield position without being ridden along to do so. He said given the manner in which DYNAMIC began, he was satisfied with the manner in which K T Yeung had ridden the horse. He said after the race DYNAMIC was noted to be blowing heavily. K T Yeung and Mr Ng were told their explanations would be reported. GLOBAL WIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GLOBAL WIN after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of GLOBAL WIN was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GLOBAL WIN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. POS TRUMPS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, POS TRUMPS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. AMPLE GAINS and GOLDEN TREASURE were sent for sampling.
