Racing Incident Report

SUPER BABY was slow to begin. On jumping, HOT PEPPER bumped with WHATAFANTASY and MEGA BULLET was taken back. Near the 1000 Metres, EPEE DE HUA, which was proving difficult to settle, was checked to avoid the heels of APPRECIATION (J Winks) which shifted in when not clear. J Winks was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Between the 300 Metres and the 200 Metres, SUPER BABY, which was hanging in, proved difficult to shift out into a narrow run between FLORAL IMAGE and LUCKY DRAGON. When questioned, K T Yeung (CHAMPION PIONEER) explained the horse was inclined to hang out in the Home Straight, however, not as badly as it usually does. He said in the early part of the Straight he made sure CHAMPION PIONEER was properly balanced, then near the 300 Metres commenced riding his mount out with the whip. He said CHAMPION PIONEER continued to lay out whilst making only moderate ground. He said because of this at the 150 Metres he put his whip away and rode his mount out hands and heels to the end of the race. He said CHAMPION PIONEER closed the race off nicely. K T Yeung was told his riding out of CHAMPION PIONEER had come under notice and he should ensure he rides his mounts in a manner which is not open to query. D Whyte (HOT PEPPER) was not able to offer any explanation for the poor performance of his mount. He said throughout the race HOT PEPPER travelled only fairly and after the 600 Metres he had to make some use of his mount to maintain its position in an attempt to prevent SUPER BABY shifting out on his inside. He said after straightening HOT PEPPER did not change legs, then failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. He said over the final 200 Metres HOT PEPPER gave ground. He did say HOT PEPPER may not have handled the increase in distance to the 1400 Metres of today’s race at its first time of asking. WHATAFANTASY and HOT PEPPER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WHATAFANTASY and HOT PEPPER after the race did not show any significant findings. FLORAL IMAGE, APPRECIATION and MEGA BULLET were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that CENTURY MOLLY had lost its right front plate.
