Racing Incident Report

After being loaded, ZEPHYRUS became fractious and reared. In this incident, the saddle fitted to ZEPHYRUS shifted. ZEPHYRUS was removed from the stalls and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. At this time, the saddle was refitted. Before being allowed to race again, ZEPHYRUS will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. As the start was effected, ZEPHYRUS lifted its front feet off the ground and was slow to begin. FORTUNE DRAGON began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped ENERGETIC BOY. CLASSIC ENERGY began awkwardly. Passing the 400 Metres, CLASSIC ENERGY was steadied and shifted to the inside of LUCKYME when disappointed for running between that horse and PACKING FRIEND. Near the 300 Metres, LUCKYME, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied when crowded for room between PACKING FRIEND and ZEPHYRUS which shifted out slightly. When being ridden out with the whip, ROCKET AND GOLD shifted wider approaching the 200 Metres. In the Straight, FOREST FOUNTAIN hung in and proved difficult to ride. The performance of LUCKY MONEY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY MONEY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LEO`S PRIDE, G Mossé stated that the horse travelled a little keen with him in the early stages. He said he shifted the horse to the outside in the Straight, LEO`S PRIDE initially responded to his riding until about the 200 Metres, however, after this its action shortened noticeably. He said that having in mind the manner in which LEO`S PRIDE finished off the race over the concluding stages at its most recent run over 1800 Metres at Happy Valley on 24 February 2010 and the manner in which it performed today, it indicated to him that, in his opinion, LEO`S PRIDE failed to effectively see out the 1800 Metre distance. He added the manner in which LEO`S PRIDE`s action shortened over the concluding stages did also cause him some concern. A veterinary inspection of LEO`S PRIDE after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, LEO`S PRIDE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LUCKYME, Apprentice K W Leung stated that after obtaining a forward position, the horse came off the bit passing the 1000 Metres which required him to niggle it along in an endeavour to remain racing on the back of UPSIDE OF ANGER. He said after this, despite his riding, LUCKYME did not travel and in the Straight gave ground. He said he was unable to offer any plausible reason for the disappointing performance of LUCKYME. Trainer C S Shum stated that he was unable to offer any tangible excuse for the poor performance of LUCKYME. However, he said that whilst the horse has been in his care, he has formed the opinion that it is best suited when able to race on the fence. A veterinary inspection of LUCKYME after the race did not show any significant findings. In the circumstances, the performance of LUCKYME, a favourite for today`s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKYME will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LUCKYME, FORTUNE DRAGON and ZEPHYRUS were sent for sampling.
