Racing Incident Report

On arrival at the Start, it was noted that CHINA WIN was lame in its right front leg. Acting on a report from the Veterinary Officer that CHINA WIN was not suitable to race, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, CHINA WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Both AMAZING SKY and KOENIGSBERG proved difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, AMAZING SKY and KOENIGSBERG will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. AMAZING SKY, GREEN PEARL and SUPER GENTLEMAN were slow to begin. MEDIC FORTUNE began awkwardly. Near the 850 Metres, HIGH AIM was crowded for room inside ACHILLES OF TROY which, despite the efforts of its rider, got its head on the side and shifted in. Passing the 250 Metres, KING OF SCOTS was steadied when held up for clear running behind ACHILLES OF TROY and HIGH AIM which shifted out. Near the 100 Metres, SOLDIER was shifted out away from the heels of SPLENDID SAILS which was giving ground. The Stewards questioned Apprentice K W Leung, in the presence of his allocated trainer, Mr Y S Tsui, regarding his riding out of AMAZING SKY over the concluding stages. Apprentice Leung stated that over the final 50 Metres his mount became unbalanced on the wet track and shifted ground outwards which prompted him to stop riding with his whip and to continue to ride hands and heels. He said over the concluding stages AMAZING SKY then dipped and became unbalanced. He said for this reason he stopped riding his mount in close proximity to the winning post. He said at the time when he stopped riding AMAZING SKY, he was of the belief that SUPER GENTLEMAN, which was closing off the race strongly, was passing AMAZING SKY and he felt that his riding out of the horse over the concluding stages did not affect its final placing. The Stewards advised Apprentice Leung that given the manner in which SUPER GENTLEMAN was closing off its race strongly, they could not be satisfied, to the requisite degree, that his failure to ride AMAZING SKY out right to the winning post had affected the horse`s final placing, however, he was reprimanded and reminded of his requirement to, wherever possible, continue to ride his mounts out right to the finishing line. A veterinary inspection of SHANGHAI PIONEER after the race did not show any significant findings. ACHILLES OF TROY, MATSUKAZE and SUPER GENTLEMAN were sent for sampling.
