Racing Incident Report

Prior to the start being effected, DIAMOND RAINBOW reared and was fractious. Shortly after the start, SUPREME TAIJI shifted out and bumped YUAN’S FORTUNE. For some distance after the start, SNITZEL KID and JOYFUL JOYFUL raced tight between MORE THAN YOU WISH which got its head on the side and shifted out and PAPER WINS which, after initially shifting in of its own accord, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DIAMOND RAINBOW. As a result of this crowding, SNITZEL KID and JOYFUL JOYFUL were checked and PAPER WIN was steadied. Making the first turn near the 1050 Metres, JOYFUL JOYFUL got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MORE THAN YOU WISH. At the 600 Metres, MORE THAN YOU WISH was steadied when crowded for room inside DIAMOND RAINBOW which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. Throughout the race, EL GRANDE raced greenly and rounding the Home Turn became unbalanced. When questioned, D Beadman stated that he had been instructed to take up a forward position on MORE LUCKY, which was having its first start at Happy Valley tonight, if the horse began well. He said from barrier 10 MORE LUCKY began only fairly and when GORGEOUS RULER shifted out slightly on his inside, he immediately formed the view that he would have had to make too much use of MORE LUCKY to clear runners to his inside and that if he was not able to show sufficient speed to do this, then MORE LUCKY may have been caught wide. He said he therefore elected to take the horse across behind runners and obtain a position with cover. He said rounding the first turn near the 1000 Metres MORE LUCKY shifted out, became unbalanced and made the turn awkwardly. He added because of this MORE LUCKY lost ground. He said after this he rode MORE LUCKY along to make up lost ground and passing the 700 Metres had tacked onto the back of the field. He said after being brought to the outside of runners rounding the Home Turn, MORE LUCKY finished off the race only fairly. A veterinary inspection of MORE LUCKY and YUAN’S FORTUNE after the race did not show any significant findings. JOYFUL JOYFUL, HOME WITH GLORY and DIAMOND RAINBOW were sent for sampling.
