Racing Incident Report

NAPA II was withdrawn on 29.10.10 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore and lame right fore capped elbow) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter STRAWBERRY (Y T Cheng). Before being allowed to race again, NAPA II will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CARS KING PRAWN began awkwardly. From wide barriers, SHIFACHI TRADITION and ROYAL PANACHE were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, CARS KING PRAWN was left racing three wide and without cover and then passing the 1000 Metres was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position closer to the rail which it was able to do after the 600 Metres. Near the 1250 Metres, BUTTERFIELD shifted out and bumped HAPPY PRESTIGE. Near the 1100 Metres, UNION’S STAR proved very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions when being checked away from the heels of FLYING IN which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of JUGGERNAUT. Passing the 1100 Metres, MARK UP became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of GREAT GUY. In the middle stages, JUGGERNAUT proved very difficult to settle. Passing the 400 Metres, UNION’S STAR was momentarily crowded for room between HAPPY PRESTIGE and FLYING IN which shifted to the outside of JUGGERNAUT. Shortly after straightening, ROYAL PANACHE was steadied away from the heels of STRAWBERRY which at this time commenced to give ground. Near the 100 Metres, LEO’S PRIDE shifted out under pressure. HAPPY PRESTIGE, which was following LEO’S PRIDE, was shifted to the inside of that horse inside the 50 Metres to continue going forward. Apprentice M L Yeung (CARS KING PRAWN), 8th placegetter, was fined $3,000 for failing to weigh in as required following the race. A veterinary inspection of FLYING IN, which finished tailed out, after the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, FLYING IN will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MARK UP and LEO’S PRIDE were sent for sampling.
