Racing Incident Report

On arrival at the Start, W M Lai (KINGSTON SPARTACUS) expressed concern regarding the horse’s action. KINGSTON SPARTACUS was examined by the Veterinary Officer who, after the necessary consultations, considered that the horse was suitable to race. When being steadied from a wide barrier to shift across behind runners soon after the start, HEADSIWIN got its head up. Near the 850 Metres, DANEWIN TIGER became unbalanced when crowded for room between SUPREME KNIGHT which shifted out slightly and JUST FANTASTIC (D Whyte) which shifted in. D Whyte was advised to ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in future. For the majority of the race, SAMMY’S FALCON travelled wide and without cover. J Lloyd reported that near the 750 Metres BIG WINNER AGAIN checked of its own accord when reluctant to maintain its position to the inside of KINGSTON SPARTACUS. KIDSLAND BABY, which was following, was hampered in consequence. When questioned, B Doyle (EMPIRE CITY) stated that rounding the Home Turn he rode his mount along to hold his position so as not to allow KINGSTON SPARTACUS, which was racing to his inside, to shift out which would have resulted in EMPIRE CITY being taken wider. He said shortly after the 400 Metres his mount, which was inclined to hang in, shifted in and at this time the left rein slipped through his hands. He said when this happened, EMPIRE CITY ran in abruptly, resulting in him becoming awkward in the saddle. He said a short distance after this he was able to gather up his reins and shift EMPIRE CITY to the outside of SAMMY’S FALCON to ride the horse out to the line. He said however that EMPIRE CITY continued to lay in for the remainder of the Straight. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HAPPY MASTER, B Prebble stated that his mount became stirred up in the Parade Ring and behind the barriers which was somewhat unusual for the horse when it raced at Sha Tin. He said that HAPPY MASTER was never completely comfortable in its action and was inclined to lay out at various times during the race. He said he had ridden the horse in track work in the lead up to today’s race and that work, in his opinion, was good. He said on the strength of its track work, it had been anticipated that HAPPY MASTER would perform well today. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY MASTER after the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of HEADSIWIN after the race revealed the horse had sustained an abrasion to the inside of the left hock and an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on EJIMERIC TE SPECSO at the request of the trainer. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HEADSIWIN and EJIMERIC TE SPECSO will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JUST FANTASTIC and SAMMY’S FALCON were sent for sampling.
