Racing Incident Report
SIMPLY JOY was withdrawn on 17.5.11 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SHARP BOY (H W Lai). Before being allowed to race again, SIMPLY JOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PREMIER HORSE was crowded for room at the start between SLEEPCARE and WINNING STRATEGY, both of which shifted ground. A short distance later, SLEEPCARE, PREMIER HORSE and WINNING STRATEGY were all crowded for room between WIN WIN FELLOWSHIP and HEXAGON which shifted out. In this incident, HEXAGON was bumped on the hindquarters by SLEEPCARE and became unbalanced. Shortly after the start, JOLLY BIRD and FUN AND FAST were crowded for room between HAPPY WIN and NOBLE VISION which shifted out after being bumped by SHARP BOY. At the 1000 Metres, MUTUAL GAIN was steadied away from the heels of HAPPY WIN. For some distance approaching the 800 Metres, PREMIER HORSE was checked away from the heels of JOLLY BIRD. At the 500 Metres, FUN AND FAST and JOLLY BIRD made contact as FUN AND FAST attempted to obtain a position inside HAPPY WIN where there was insufficient room. In this incident, both JOLLY BIRD and FUN AND FAST became unbalanced and FUN AND FAST lost ground when steadied away from the heels of HAPPY WIN. When questioned, B Prebble stated that he had been instructed to obtain a forward position on HEXAGON. He said he rode his mount along in the early stages, however, HEXAGON became unbalanced shortly after the start after making contact with SLEEPCARE. He said after this incident he continued to urge HEXAGON forward, however, as there were a number of horses positioned to his inside, it soon became apparent to him that HEXAGON would not show sufficient speed to cross those runners. He added he was reluctant to continue to urge HEXAGON forward making the first turn as the horse had previously hung out badly and proved difficult to manage in its races. He said as HEXAGON, in his opinion, was not able to obtain a forward position, he attempted to get cover on the horse. He said when SLEEPCARE improved around HEXAGON after the 800 Metres, HEXAGON was able to obtain cover for a short distance, however, approaching the 600 Metres HEXAGON was left racing three wide and without cover. He said making the Home Turn HEXAGON got its head on the side and lay out and, considering the circumstances of the race, finished off quite well. He added that, in his opinion, HEXAGON travelled tonight as though it may appreciate more give in the ground. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that HAPPY WIN had finished distressed. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of MUTUAL GAIN after the race did not show any significant findings. FASCINATING SMILE and NOBLE VISION were sent for sampling.
<19/5/2011 Additional Veterinary Report> The Clinical Veterinary Surgeon reported this afternoon that SHARP BOY had sustained a wound to the left front outside cannon with swelling on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, SHARP BOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
