Racing Incident Report

STRAIGHT FORWARD began very awkwardly and knuckled over, resulting in its rider, M Chadwick, becoming badly unbalanced in the saddle. In this incident, M Chadwick lost the use of his right stirrup iron for a short distance. D Whyte (NATIONAL TREASURE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 1200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of IRON EAGLE, resulting in that horse being taken across the running of PIZZAZZ which as a result lost its rightful running and lost ground. OUTDOOR PEGASUS (P Strydom), which was following PIZZAZZ, was obliged to shift out away from the heels of that horse and after this travelled wide and without cover. D Whyte was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 16 June 2011 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday, 8 June 2011. P Strydom was warned against the practice of directing unnecessary remarks to other riders during the running of a race. For some distance passing the 1100 Metres, IRON EAGLE proved difficult to settle and was steadied away from the heels of NATIONAL TREASURE. Near the 350 Metres, BERIO, which was commencing to give ground, was momentarily crowded for room inside OUTDOOR PEGASUS which shifted in. Over the concluding stages, VICTOR DELIGHT, which was closing off the race strongly, was awkwardly placed outside the heels of OUTDOOR PEGASUS and inside STRAIGHT FORWARD. Because of this, VICTOR DELIGHT was not fully tested over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of IRON EAGLE, D Beadman stated that after the race he observed his mount had been badly galloped on above the right hock during the race and, in his opinion, this accounted for its failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of IRON EAGLE after the race revealed that the horse had sustained an abrasion over the right hind Achilles tendon. NATIONAL TREASURE and KING AL AKBAR were sent for sampling.
