Racing Incident Report

Whilst in the saddling stalls, GREAT UNITY had its right front plate refitted. GREAT UNITY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. On arrival at the Start, the tongue tie fitted to FERRABOSCO was replaced. DAYLIGHT EXPRESS, which was fractious in the barriers, began awkwardly. BIG CHIEF and ROYAL PORTRAIT bumped at the start. DIVINE KID and THE KID made contact on a number occasions rounding the Home Turn as DIVINE KID attempted to shift out. Throughout the race, GREAT UNITY travelled wide and without cover. After the race, Z Purton (EXCELLENT ELITE) said that the horse’s action was not comfortable at any stage in the race and became unbalanced on a number of occasions in the early part of the Straight. He said for this reason he eased the horse down over the final 200 Metres. A veterinary inspection of EXCELLENT ELITE, which finished tailed out, after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of EXCELLENT ELITE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, EXCELLENT ELITE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, O Doleuze stated that it had been intended for WADASURPRISE to be ridden quietly. He said however that the horse missed the start badly and consequently became somewhat detached from the field in the early stages. He said the tempo of the race in the initial stages was good, therefore he allowed WADASURPRISE to improve its position gradually running along the Back Straight. He said by the time they reached the first turn after the 900 Metres, WADASURPRISE had improved its position to be racing immediately behind ROYAL PORTRAIT. He added in the Straight WADASURPRISE hung in badly and proved difficult to ride. Before being allowed to race again, WADASURPRISE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. A veterinary inspection of THE KID after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, THE KID will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of DAYLIGHT EXPRESS after the race revealed the horse to be distressed and to be displaying an elevated heart rate. Before being allowed to race again, DAYLIGHT EXPRESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. THE KID, FERRABOSCO and WADASURPRISE were sent for sampling.
