Racing Incident Report

LOADS OF JOY was withdrawn on 24.5.11 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, LOADS OF JOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BEST WIN began very awkwardly, shifted out and bumped TEAM WORK. BEST WIN then got its head up on a number of occasions after the start and passing the 1000 Metres again got its head up and proved difficult to settle. After the 900 Metres, TEAM WORK was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 200 Metres, ROYAL PANACHE was shifted out away from the heels of PERFECT FIT. When questioned, P Strydom stated that prior to the Home Turn when he commenced to ride TEAM WORK along, the horse got its head on the side and was inclined to lay in. He said as PERFECT FIT was positioned to the inside of TEAM WORK, he was not able to fully ride his mount along as, in his opinion, TEAM WORK would have shifted in and caused interference to PERFECT FIT. He said in the early part of the Straight he commenced to ride TEAM WORK out vigorously, however the horse got its head on the side and again lay in behind DOUBLE LUCK. He said however that TEAM WORK was far enough behind DOUBLE LUCK that he was able to continue to ride his mount out without racing close to the heels of that horse. He added approaching the 200 Metres DOUBLE LUCK shifted in which presented clear running to TEAM WORK, however, over the concluding stages TEAM WORK again got its head on the side, hung in and proved difficult to ride. P Strydom was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he should wherever possible ensure his mounts are provided clear and unimpeded running. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT JOY after the race did not show any significant findings. BEST WIN and TEAM WORK were sent for sampling.
