Racing Incident Report

On jumping, GOOD GAINS and FLASHING GUY were badly crowded for room between JOYFUL WINNER II and YOUNG TURBO which jumped in at the start. Soon after the start, FREE AND EASY shifted out and bumped DANEWIN WINNING which in turn shifted out and inconvenienced DREAM BUILDER. On the 1000 Metre turn, GREEN ZONE was steadied to avoid the heels of BIG PROFIT which shifted in. Passing the 1000 Metres, DREAM BUILDER was steadied away from the heels of SUPERIOR WARRIOR (H W Lai) which shifted in when barely clear. H W Lai was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance in similar circumstances. Passing the 600 Metres, YOUNG TURBO brushed the running rail, became unbalanced and then shifted out and made contact with SUPERIOR WARRIOR which also became unbalanced. Just prior to the finishing line, FREE AND EASY raced in restricted room and was brushed by SUPERIOR WARRIOR which shifted in under pressure. When questioned, H W Lai stated that at its last start SUPERIOR WARRIOR failed to finish off its race when ridden in the lead which had been the horse’s normal racing pattern. He said tonight he had been instructed to go forward on SUPERIOR WARRIOR, but was to find cover. He said on the first turn he was able to shift SUPERIOR WARRIOR into a prominent position behind VINTAGE HUSSLER and consequently his mount finished off its race. A veterinary inspection of BIG PROFIT after the race, which finished tailed out, revealed that the horse was lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, BIG PROFIT will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, T Clark stated that he was instructed to have JOYFUL WINNER II travelling where it was comfortable, however, he was not to have the horse off the bit so as to enable it to finish off its race. He said that at the entrance to the Back Straight he did have the opportunity to ride his mount along to maintain its position on the back of YOUNG TURBO, however, as this was contrary to his instructions, he allowed JOYFUL WINNER II to remain racing comfortably on the bit which permitted DREAM BUILDER to cross and take up the position trailing YOUNG TURBO. He explained that whilst JOYFUL WINNER II was a little disappointing in its failure to close off the race, he felt that the horse would be better suited over a longer journey. A veterinary inspection of JOYFUL WINNER II after the race did not show any significant findings. JOYFUL WINNER II, YOUNG TURBO and DANEWIN WINNING were sent for sampling.
