Racing Incident Report

Whilst in the saddling stalls, DIVINITY POWER had its left front plate refitted. DIVINITY POWER was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. On arrival at the Start, M Du Plessis expressed concern regarding the action of EUPHEMISM when proceeding to the barriers. EUPHEMISM was examined by the Veterinary Officer who, after the necessary consultations, said the horse was suitable to race. After being loaded, DISPATCHER became fractious and reared. In this incident, DISPATCHER struck its head on the overhead bar. DISPATCHER was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse had sustained an abrasion to the left front shin and was lame in the right front leg. Acting on the advice from the Veterinary Officer that DISPATCHER was not suitable to race, it was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, DISPATCHER will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. M’S MAGIC and DIVINITY POWER were slow to begin. From wide barriers, EUPHEMISM and FASTPLUS MASTER were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. In the early part of the Straight, FASTPLUS MASTER was steadied and shifted to the inside of DIVINITY POWER when unable to obtain clear running between that horse and EUPHEMISM. Throughout the race, ROCK’N TYPHOON travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. When questioned, J Lloyd stated that he had been instructed to be positive on MING HOI GLORY and lead as the horse had been successful when ridden in this manner. He said after having to be ridden along to cross MATSUKAZE after the 1000 Metres, he elected to steady the tempo on MING HOI GLORY, however, making the first turn the horse got its head on the side and hung out. He said as he was attempting to correct MING HOI GLORY to have it race more tractably, MING HOI GLORY established a margin over the field which resulted in it running at a quicker tempo than he would have preferred. He added after this MING HOI GLORY continued to hang out, particularly rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight. He said shortly after passing the 400 Metres MING HOI GLORY quickly came under pressure and despite being ridden along immediately failed to respond to his riding with MATSUKAZE and SHINY DAY able to improve their positions quickly to its outside. He said due to the manner in which MING HOI GLORY gave ground after hanging out throughout the race, he felt that something may have been amiss with the horse and for this reason he eased MING HOI GLORY down in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of MING HOI GLORY after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MING HOI GLORY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MING HOI GLORY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CHANCELLOR, G Mossé stated that he was able to obtain a good position on CHANCELLOR and the horse travelled very well throughout the early and middle stages behind the speed. He said he placed CHANCELLOR under pressure shortly after straightening, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and was most disappointing in the manner in which it failed to quicken. He added despite being ridden along, CHANCELLOR gave ground in the Straight and, in his opinion, was most disappointing. He added after the race he recommended to the connections of CHANCELLOR that they give consideration to gelding the horse. A veterinary inspection of CHANCELLOR after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, K C Leung reported that FASTPLUS MASTER failed to close off the race. A veterinary inspection of ROCK’N TYPHOON after the race did not show any significant findings. CHANCELLOR, SHINY DAY and MIGHTY K were sent for sampling.
