Racing Incident Report

RIDE ON THE FIRE began awkwardly. WISER began awkwardly and then shortly after the start lost ground when bumped by AMAZING SKY which was taken out by LUCKY TURBO which itself shifted out after being bumped by SEIZE THE DAY. LIFELINE ELITE was slow to begin. From outside barriers, HAPPY CHAMPION and CREATIVE UNION were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Approaching the 400 Metres, TURIN CHAMPION was steadied away from the heels of SURFER BOY. AMAZING SKY was not able to obtain clear running over the final 100 Metres and because of this was not properly tested. Y T Cheng (SURFER BOY) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in across TURIN CHAMPION, resulting in that horse losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled and being hampered. Y T Cheng was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 12 December 2011 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 4 December 2011. After this incident, SURFER BOY then shifted out, resulting in TURIN CHAMPION, which was attempting to establish a run to the outside of that horse, being checked away from the heels of SURFER BOY for the remainder of the race. Because of this, TURIN CHAMPION was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. WISER, which was racing to the outside of TURIN CHAMPION, was taken wider and SUPERIOR WARRIOR, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied away from the heels of WISER. Y T Cheng was told that whilst the Stewards were satisfied that TURIN CHAMPION did not establish running to the outside of SURFER BOY, nonetheless he was reprimanded and advised that he should make every effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground. A veterinary inspection of LIFELINE ELITE and AMAZING SKY after the race did not show any significant findings. LIFELINE ELITE, HAPPY CHAMPION and WISER were sent for sampling.
<17/11/2011 Additional Veterinary Report> AMAZING SKY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Executive Manager, Regulatory Veterinary & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. AMAZING SKY was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg and sore in both front fetlocks. Before being allowed to race again, AMAZING SKY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
