Racing Incident Report

SUPER HORSE and HEY CHEERS both began awkwardly and consequently lost ground.
APPROVE began very awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SHIFACHI TRADITION which became unbalanced.
When being shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier shortly after the start, TRIUMPHANT DRAGON proved very difficult to settle for some distance and got its head up on a number of occasions. The performance of TRIUMPHANT DRAGON, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TRIUMPHANT DRAGON will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Shortly after the start, LIFE OF BEAUTY got its head up when momentarily crowded for room inside COLUMBUS LINE which shifted in abruptly.
Also shortly after the start, SUPER HORSE was crowded for room inside ISLAND SPRING which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the considerable efforts of its rider to prevent ISLAND SPRING from shifting ground.
After the 1300 Metres, LIFE OF BEAUTY commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed close to the heels of COLUMBUS LINE.
After the 1000 Metres, TELECOM SUPREMO was left racing wide and without cover.
COLUMBUS LINE was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight.
Near the 350 Metres, GOOD FRIENDS MAGIC and TELECOM SUPREMO raced tight for some distance due to MALAYAN PEARL getting its head on the side and shifting out under pressure. Then near the 250 Metres, TELECOM SUPREMO was again awkwardly placed outside GOOD FRIENDS MAGIC which was giving ground. In this incident, COLUMBUS LINE, which was racing outside TELECOM SUPREMO, was hampered when that horse shifted out.
When questioned regarding his riding of GOOD FRIENDS MAGIC in the early part of the Straight, T H So stated that after travelling well, his horse came under heavy pressure to improve its position rounding the Home Turn. He said he rode GOOD FRIENDS MAGIC along in the early stages of the Straight and the horse shifted out slightly which allowed the opportunity for MALAYAN PEARL to shift out to his inside. He said after this GOOD FRIENDS MAGIC, despite being ridden out, gave ground noticeably and finished at the rear of the field. T H So was advised to ensure that he rides competitively at all stages of the race.
After the race, R Fourie reported that ISLAND SPRING became fractious in the barriers prior to the start. A veterinary inspection of ISLAND SPRING immediately following the race found that horse to have blood at the left nostril. An endoscopic examination was conducted on ISLAND SPRING and the horse was found not to have bled.
A veterinary inspection of GOOD FRIENDS MAGIC immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
APPROVE and MALAYAN PEARL were sent for sampling.
<13/5/2013 Additional Veterinary Report>ISLAND SPRING, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time the horse was found to have blood at the left nostril. An endoscopic examination was conducted on ISLAND SPRING and the horse was found not to have bled. ISLAND SPRING was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer B K Ng yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, ISLAND SPRING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
