Racing Incident Report

RAY OF GOLD was crowded for room at the start between PEARL WIN which shifted out slightly and HAPPY CERAMIBO which was taken in by MERIDIAN TREASURE.
From the outside barriers, TAI PO FORTUNE, REAL CHAMPION and FOREVER AHEAD were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
After being vigorously ridden along in the early stages, MERIDIAN TREASURE, when left racing wide, was steadied and shifted in after the 1100 Metres to obtain a position closer to the rail.
When being steadied to obtain a position with cover after the 1100 Metres, PEARL WIN proved difficult to settle when racing keenly.
When being steadied after the 1000 Metres, LOVELY BOY travelled keenly near the 900 Metres. TAYSIDE was shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of LOVELY BOY after the 900 Metres and in doing so hampered MERIDIAN TREASURE which was taken wider. When MERIDIAN TREASURE shifted back in near the 800 Metres, RAY OF GOLD, which was following, became unbalanced when awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. FOREVER AHEAD, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of RAY OF GOLD in consequence.
Rounding the Home Turn, FOREVER AHEAD was awkwardly placed close to the heels of RAY OF GOLD.
Approaching the 200 Metres, FOREVER AHEAD was awkwardly placed outside the heels of LOVELY BOY and then passing the 50 Metres was shifted in away from the heels of PEARL WIN.
In the Straight, MULTIEXPRESS got its head on the side and hung out, particularly over the final 100 Metres.
Also over the final 100 Metres, PEARL WIN shifted out away from MULTIEXPRESS.
When questioned, Apprentice K C Ng stated that he had been instructed to ride HAPPY CERAMIBO positively in the early stages and to obtain the lead on the rail. He said it was explained to him that HAPPY CERAMIBO had previously raced well when ridden in the lead. Trainer C S Shum stated that he issued strict instructions to Apprentice Ng to lead on the rail if at all possible. He said he did not envisage that there would be such a strong pace in today’s race and as HAPPY CERAMIBO had raced well in the lead in the past, he felt that it was reasonable for the horse to again be ridden in the same manner. He said despite being ridden along, HAPPY CERAMIBO did not show the same tactical speed that it did at its previous start which required more use having to be made of the horse to lead than he had anticipated.
A veterinary inspection of RAY OF GOLD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FOREVER AHEAD, MULTIEXPRESS and PEARL WIN were sent for sampling.
