Racing Incident Report

SECRETARY OF STATE was slow to begin.
AMBITIOUS TREASURE was crowded for room at the start between CALIFORNIA GIRL and TRAVEL GUIDE, both of which shifted ground.
From the outside barrier, GERONIMO MEADOW was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SIGHT LOVER was steadied away from the heels of CALIFORNIA GIRL (T H So) which shifted in. T H So was severely reprimanded and advised that whilst the Stewards had taken into consideration CALIFORNIA GIRL’s poor racing manners, nonetheless he would be expected, in similar circumstances, to do more to prevent his mount from shifting ground than he did on this occasion.
Passing the 1100 Metres, WIN IT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SIGHT LOVER which itself when travelling keenly was racing close to the heels of TRENDY WIN.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, TRAVEL GUIDE was left racing wide and without cover.
For some distance approaching and passing the 800 Metres, WIN IT continued to race close to the heels of SIGHT LOVER which was continuing to prove difficult to settle.
SECRETARY OF STATE was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 200 Metres was shifted to the inside of TRAVEL GUIDE. Then near the 100 Metres, SECRETARY OF STATE again had difficulty obtaining clear running when attempting to obtain tight running between SIGHT LOVER and TRAVEL GUIDE.
Throughout the race, CALIFORNIA GIRL hung out and raced greenly. The performance of CALIFORNIA GIRL was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CALIFORNIA GIRL will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial around a bend.
D Whyte (SIGHT LOVER) stated that after allowing TRENDY WIN to cross after passing the winning post on the first occasion, in order to get cover, SIGHT LOVER then travelled strongly when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TRENDY WIN which was steadied after crossing SIGHT LOVER. He said having in mind the circumstances of the race and the manner in which SIGHT LOVER travelled, he felt, in his opinion, the horse finished off the race satisfactorily. A veterinary inspection of SIGHT LOVER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SIGHT LOVER, GOOD LOOKING WATCH and VERY WELL were sent for sampling.
