Racing Incident Report

UWILLBEGLORIOUS began awkwardly.
SUN HUSSAR was slow to begin.
Near the 1300 Metres, GOLDEN SCALPEL got its head up when travelling keenly and awkwardly placed close to the heels of HEALTH WISE.
Approaching the 1200 Metres, INVICTUS got its head up when proving difficult to settle.
Rounding the Home Turn, MALHECHOR GOLD was inconvenienced when crowded for room between LITTLE MEN which shifted out and TOWERING STORM. Then in the early part of the Straight, MALHECHOR GOLD was bumped and taken wider by GREAT AND BEYOND.
After the 400 Metres, OXFORD CHARLEY and GOLDEN SCALPEL bumped due to both horses shifting ground. A short distance later, OXFORD CHARLEY was crowded for room between GOLDEN SCALPEL which shifted out after becoming unbalanced and UWILLBEGLORIOUS which shifted in marginally.
For some distance approaching and passing the 150 Metres, JAMESINA was steadied when held up for clear running behind INVICTUS and inside WAYFOONG EXPRESS.
For the majority of the race, MALHECHOR GOLD travelled wide and without cover.
The performance of HEALTH WISE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HEALTH WISE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LITTLE MEN, D Whyte stated that the horse was fractious in the barriers. He said whilst the horse had behaved similarly in the past after being loaded, LITTLE MEN was particularly bad today and because of its barrier manners was then slow to begin. He said in the early and middle stages LITTLE MEN travelled satisfactorily and passing the 600 Metres he was in two minds as to whether to shift to the outside of UWILLBEGLORIOUS or position LITTLE MEN to the inside of that horse which was shifting ground at this time. He said rounding the Home Turn he elected to shift to the outside of UWILLBEGLORIOUS, however, at this time TOWERING STORM improved its position quickly to the outside of LITTLE MEN and this resulted in both LITTLE MEN and TOWERING STORM racing tight and making contact just prior to the entrance to the Straight. He added rather than continue to attempt to push TOWERING STORM out, he steadied LITTLE MEN and switched that horse to the inside of OXFORD CHARLEY into clear running. He said after being momentarily held up for clear running when racing tight between the tiring HEALTH WISE and SUN HUSSAR which shifted out near the 350 Metres, he was able to obtain clear running on LITTLE MEN at the 300 Metres, however, the horse finished off the race only fairly after this. He said, in his opinion, LITTLE MEN had raced like a horse that needed a let-up. Mr J Size, the trainer of LITTLE MEN, advised that at this stage it is his intention to give LITTLE MEN some time off following today’s race with a view to evaluating the horse’s condition before deciding whether to start the horse again prior to the end of the season. A veterinary inspection of LITTLE MEN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that GOLDEN SCALPEL had lost its right front plate.
A veterinary inspection of LEVEL PLAYER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
LITTLE MEN, AGIAAL and WAYFOONG EXPRESS were sent for sampling.
