Racing Incident Report

HARBOUR MASTER and THE UNTOUCHABLELAD were slow to begin.
As the start was effected, DASHING FORTUNE lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently had to be ridden along for some distance to obtain a forward position.
SUMARAND DRAGON lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and began only fairly.
KA YING KID got its head up after the start.
After the 1300 Metres, HARBOUR MASTER was steadied away from the heels of WINNING APEX which was taken in by SANTA FE SUN which shifted in slightly when allowing KING OF REASON to cross.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, LUCKY HAMMER was taken wider by SUMARAND DRAGON which shifted out away from SANTA FE SUN when proving difficult to settle.
Approaching the first turn near the 900 Metres, KA YING KID got its head up on a number of occasions when proving difficult to settle. After the 700 Metres, KA YING KID continued to race with its head up when being steadied away from the heels of WINNING APEX.
For some distance after the 400 Metres, KING OF REASON was hampered and was impeded for clear running when obtaining a tight run to the inside of SIGHT LOVER.
Throughout the race, GRAND ELITE travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.
When questioned regarding his riding of THE UNTOUCHABLELAD in the Straight, Apprentice K C Ng stated that for some distance in the early part of the Straight he was held up behind KING OF REASON and HARBOUR MASTER. He said near the 300 Metres he shifted THE UNTOUCHABLELAD out in order to obtain clear running to the outside of HARBOUR MASTER, however, that horse shifted ground outwards and as GRAND ELITE was positioned to the outside of HARBOUR MASTER and giving ground, he elected to obtain clear running to the inside of HARBOUR MASTER. He said he rode his mount along which included using the whip and THE UNTOUCHABLELAD commenced to close off the race strongly. He added he then had to shift THE UNTOUCHABLELAD out after the 100 Metres when held up for clear running behind DASHING FORTUNE and HARBOUR MASTER and after obtaining clear running to the outside of HARBOUR MASTER, he rode his mount out to the end of the race.
N Pinna, the rider of the 6th placegetter, KING OF REASON, pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 100(2) in that he failed to ride his mount out all the way to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. N Pinna was fined a sum of $20,000.
A veterinary inspection of GRAND ELITE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SANTA FE SUN and SMART BALL were sent for sampling.
