Racing Incident Report
ISHVARA was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, FINE WITH ME raced tight between BUNDLE OF ENERGY which shifted out after being bumped by SPARKLING SWORD and CHARITY WINGS which shifted in.
From the outside barriers, ALL YOU KNOW and STARLIT KNIGHT were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Near the 1400 Metres, ISHVARA was crowded for room between HO HO FEEL and ALL YOU KNOW which shifted in marginally when very awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOLD VELVET which was being steadied in an attempt to obtain cover.
After the 1200 Metres, SPEEDY WALLY commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up for some distance when being checked away from the heels of BUNDLE OF ENERGY.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, DARING HEART, when being crossed by SPARKLING SWORD (Apprentice M F Poon), got its head up on a number of occasions when proving difficult to steady. Apprentice Poon was advised that whilst the Stewards accepted that DARING HEART’s racing manners at this stage had contributed to the incident, nonetheless he must ensure that he provides proper clearance when crossing runners. After this, SPARKLING SWORD raced with its head on the side and was inclined to lay out away from the rail.
Over the concluding stages, ALL YOU KNOW was unable to be ridden out after improving its position to be racing close to the heels of CHARITY WINGS which shifted in under pressure before being corrected by its rider passing the winning post.
When questioned, G van Niekerk (GOLD VELVET) stated that, from barrier 10, he was asked to obtain a position in about midfield with cover if possible. He said passing the winning post on the first occasion he was left racing in a three wide position outside SPEEDY WALLY. He said he steadied GOLD VELVET in an attempt to obtain cover behind that horse, however, ALL YOU KNOW was able to improve its position inside GOLD VELVET approaching the 1300 Metres and this resulted in GOLD VELVET racing wide and without cover for the remainder of the race.
A veterinary inspection of ISHVARA immediately following the race confirmed the horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.
GOLD VELVET, SPARKLING SWORD and CHARITY WINGS were sent for sampling.
