Racing Incident Report

GLORIOUS SPECTRUM was slow to begin.
ENCORE BOY began awkwardly.
BEAR SLAM was slow to begin and then from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
From a wide barrier, GUNNISON got its head up on a number of occasions shortly after the start when being steadied to obtain cover.
Also from a wide barrier, MEGA RED was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
When being steadied to obtain cover passing the 800 Metres, MAGIC LEGEND got its head up on a number of occasions.
Making the turn near the 700 Metres, BIG TIME BABY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PERPETUAL TREASURE.
Making the first turn at the 700 Metres, GLORIOUS SPECTRUM got its head on the side and hung out across the heels of MAGIC LEGEND. GUNNISON, which was following, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
In the Straight, ENCORE BOY raced with its head on the side and lay out under pressure.
When questioned, K C Leung (MEGA RED) stated that he briefly stopped riding his mount approaching the 100 Metres after being struck in the face by kickback. K C Leung explained that this was only momentary and he was able to ride MEGA RED out for the remainder of the race and it finished off the race well although close to the finishing line he was awkwardly placed inside MOMENT OF POWER. A veterinary inspection of MEGA RED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
The Stewards will interview Mr K L Man, trainer of BIG TIME BABY, regarding the improved performance of that horse compared to its most recent start at the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday, 5 December 2018.
A veterinary inspection of PICK NUMBER ONE immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, PICK NUMBER ONE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
UGLY WARRIOR, BIG TIME BABY and GUNNISON were sent for sampling.
<3/12/2018 Additional Veterinary Report>After the race, MEGA RED was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. MEGA RED was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C W Chang this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, MEGA RED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
<5/12/2018 Race 9 (225) – 2 December 2018 Sha Tin Race Meeting>The Stewards tonight interviewed Mr K L Man, the trainer of BIG TIME BABY, regarding the improvement in the horse’s form as compared to its previous start. Mr Man informed the Stewards that he expected BIG TIME BABY would race well at its most recent start and advised the connections accordingly. He said however that BIG TIME BABY was obliged to race back in the field on that occasion after being slow to begin and because of this the horse was not able to finish off the race. He said after beginning well in this race, the horse was able to take up a forward position and consequently was able to close off the race strongly.
