Racing Incident Report

MARVEL JOY shifted out at the start and bumped GOOD FIT. After this, MARVEL JOY and GOOD FIT were shifted across behind runners from wide barriers.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, STARLIT KNIGHT was awkwardly placed behind SUPERIOR BOY. After this, STARLIT KNIGHT travelled keenly.
Near the 1100 Metres, KIROV became unbalanced after being bumped by STARLIT KNIGHT which shifted out when continuing to travel keenly.
STARLIT KNIGHT was left racing wide and without cover approaching the 1000 Metres and was then allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead near the 800 Metres.
KIROV was left racing wide and without cover near the 900 Metres.
RADIANT BUNNY was left racing wide and without cover after the 800 Metres.
When questioned, S de Sousa (LETSGOFREE) stated that he was asked to obtain a position in about midfield with cover from the outside barrier. He said after allowing LETSGOFREE to shift across with other runners in the early stages, he rode his mount along passing the winning post on the first occasion when it became apparent to him that he would not be able to obtain a position as instructed. He said he did this in order to ensure that LETSGOFREE did not race unnecessarily wide. He said after being left racing wide and without cover after the 1400 Metres, he then allowed his mount to stride forward into the lead approaching the 1000 Metres.
When questioned, U Rispoli (NAMJONG INVINCIBLE) stated that he was instructed to obtain a position behind the leaders if possible from an inside barrier. He said due to the circumstances of the race in the early stages, he was not able to shift in and obtain a trailing position behind SUPERIOR BOY as STARLIT KNIGHT had established its position. He said this resulted in NAMJONG INVINCIBLE being left racing wide and without cover passing the winning post on the first occasion. He said he therefore allowed NAMJONG INVINCIBLE to stride forward of SUPERIOR BOY and shifted in to race outside the leader passing the 1400 Metres. He said NAMJONG INVINCIBLE travelled comfortably in the middle stages, however, when crossed by STARLIT KNIGHT passing the 800 Metres, the horse immediately came off the bridle and then, despite being ridden along, did not respond to his riding and finished tailed out. The performance of NAMJONG INVINCIBLE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, NAMJONG INVINCIBLE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of NAMJONG INVINCIBLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
M Chadwick stated that, from barrier 2, it was expected that SUNSHINE UNIVERSE would be able to obtain a prominent position behind the leaders. He said after obtaining the position behind the leader FOX CHEUNGER in the early stages, SUNSHINE UNIVERSE travelled well. He said when the rider of FOX CHEUNGER allowed LETSGOFREE to improve into the lead near the 1000 Metres, this resulted in SUNSHINE UNIVERSE having to race in about a midfield position in the middle stages. He said when the pace of the race quickened near the 700 Metres, SUNSHINE UNIVERSE was left flat-footed and he had to ride the horse along in order to improve its position. He added it was not until straightening that SUNSHINE UNIVERSE was able to be balanced and the horse consequently finished off the race reasonably well.
A veterinary inspection of KIROV immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SUNSHINE UNIVERSE, GOOD FIT and RADIANT BUNNY were sent for sampling.
<20/12/2018 Additional Veterinary Report>NAMJONG INVINCIBLE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. NAMJONG INVINCIBLE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C H Yip this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. As previously advised, NAMJONG INVINCIBLE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
