Racing Incident Report
On arrival at the Start, it was noted that GENTRY had lost its left front plate. After this plate was refitted, GENTRY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
PERFECT BUDDY began only fairly and then shortly after the start was steadied when racing tight between ISHVARA which shifted out marginally and ACCLAIMED LIGHT which shifted in.
GLORY STAR and GOOD RUNNERS WAY bumped at the start.
GENTRY was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Despite being hard ridden for some distance in the early stages, GLORY STAR was slow to muster speed and approaching the winning post on the first occasion shifted in and was very awkwardly placed close to the heels of MISTER MONTE. GLORY STAR was then left racing wide and without cover after the 1000 Metres and was ridden along for some distance to shift in to race outside the lead near the 600 Metres.
Despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, GOOD RUNNERS WAY failed to muster speed and passing the winning post on the first occasion was steadied and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
PERFECT BUDDY travelled keenly approaching and passing the 1100 Metres.
MISTER MONTE travelled wide and without cover until after the 1000 Metres.
Near the 450 Metres, PERFECT BUDDY was steadied away from the heels of GENTRY which shifted out.
Approaching the 200 Metres, ISHVARA and PERFECT BUDDY raced tight.
After the 200 Metres, MISTER MONTE shifted in abruptly away from GENTRY and bumped GLORY STAR which was crowded for room outside ACCLAIMED LIGHT. Then approaching the 100 Metres, MISTER MONTE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of GENTRY (G van Niekerk) which shifted in under pressure. G van Niekerk was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. In this incident, MISTER MONTE briefly turned its head towards GENTRY. The Stewards will continue to monitor MISTER MONTE’s racing manners in its future starts.
Close to the finishing line, GOOD FOR YOU was awkwardly placed behind HAPPY WARRIOR.
A veterinary inspection of ISHVARA immediately following the race revealed the horse to be displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, ISHVARA will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
GENTRY and HAPPY WARRIOR were sent for sampling.
