Racing Incident Report

SEERITE DRAGON shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of DIAMOND BRILLIANT, causing DIAMOND BRILLIANT to become unbalanced and SEERITE DRAGON to lose ground.
TAILOR MADE began only fairly.
BE READY began awkwardly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Near the 900 Metres, HANDSOME BO BO shifted in away from TEAM SPIRIT and bumped GRADE ONE, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
C Schofield (TEAM SPIRIT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that making the turn near the 850 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of HANDSOME BO BO, causing that horse to be taken in across the rightful running of GRADE ONE which was severely checked. In this incident, BIG FORTUNE raced tight inside DIAMOND BRILLIANT which itself raced tight inside GRADE ONE as that horse was checked. After this, GRADE ONE was left racing wide and without cover. C Schofield was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 1 December 2019 and to expire on Thursday, 5 December 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Jockey Schofield was fined $20,000.
Z Purton (LOCKHEED) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 600 Metres he directed his mount out from behind HANDSOME BO BO when not clear of DIAMOND BRILLIANT, causing that horse to become unbalanced when buffeted between LOCKHEED and GRADE ONE which also became unbalanced. Z Purton was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 27 November 2019 and to expire on Monday, 2 December 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Purton’s good race riding record.
BIG FORTUNE was badly held up for clear running from on straightening until near the 250 Metres.
BLOTTING PAPER was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and then near the 300 Metres when attempting to improve inside GRADE ONE was checked away from the heels of that horse which was taken in marginally by SHINING GEM. BLOTTING PAPER then continued to be held up for clear running until near the 150 Metres.
Apprentice K H Chan (BIG FORTUNE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at the 200 Metres he directed his mount out to obtain a run to the outside of HANDSOME BO BO and in doing so unnecessarily crowded the room of HELLO BEAUTY, causing HELLO BEAUTY to be hampered and taken out onto the heels of DIAMOND BRILLIANT. As HELLO BEAUTY was take out onto the heels of DIAMOND BRILLIANT, it then shifted out further away from the heels of that horse, causing GRADE ONE to be checked. When GRADE ONE was checked at the 200 Metres, BE READY became badly unbalanced after being bumped heavily on the hindquarters which resulted in its rider having to stop riding and re-balance BE READY. Apprentice Chan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 11 December 2019 and to expire on Monday, 16 December 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Apprentice Chan was fined $12,500.
HERCULES was held up for clear running over the final 100 Metres when awkwardly placed behind TEAM SPIRIT which was giving ground.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on LOCKHEED at the request of Trainer C S Shum. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LOCKHEED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of HANDSOME BO BO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SHINING GEM and BIG FORTUNE were sent for sampling.
