Racing Incident Report

WINNING ENDEAVOUR lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and was slow to begin.
DELIGHTFUL LAOS began awkwardly.
BRAVE KING shifted out at the start and bumped WEALTHY DELIGHT.
REEL BIZZY began awkwardly and then bumped with NAMJONG PLUS at the start.
URBAN DANCER and ENSHRINED bumped at the start.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, WEALTHY DELIGHT was awkwardly placed outside the heels of RICH AND LUCKY when being steadied to obtain cover behind that horse.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, FLASH FAMOUS was left racing wide and without cover. FLASH FAMOUS was then allowed to improve its position after the 1300 Metres to race outside the lead at the 800 Metres.
M L Yeung (URBAN DANCER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of RICH AND LUCKY, resulting in that horse being checked away from the heels of URBAN DANCER and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. M L Yeung was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 14 October 2020 and to expire on Monday, 19 October on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Yeung’s good race riding record.
After the 1200 Metres, REEL BIZZY, which was travelling keenly, was steadied away from the heels of ENSHRINED.
Near the 150 Metres, BRAVE KING was shifted out away from the heels of RICH AND LUCKY which was directed to the outside of FLASH FAMOUS to obtain clear running as that horse was giving ground.
C Schofield pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 100(2) in that he failed to ride WEALTHY DELIGHT, 6th placegetter, out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. For this breach of the Rule, C Schofield was fined the sum of $15,000.
When questioned, Z Purton stated that ENSHRINED, which was having its first start on the turf in Hong Kong tonight and was stepping up in distance to 1650 Metres, did not relax during the race. He said after riding his mount along to take up a forward position, ENSHRINED travelled too keenly when racing outside the early leader URBAN DANCER. He said when FLASH FAMOUS subsequently improved to the outside of ENSHRINED, this again fired up his mount. He said due to ENSHRINED travelling too keenly, he was unable to remain racing beside URBAN DANCER and was required to cross that horse and race on the rail in the lead. He said because of the manner in which ENSHRINED travelled in the early and middle stages, the horse came under heavy pressure after the 500 Metres and then despite being ridden out gave ground noticeably in the early part of the Straight. A veterinary inspection of ENSHRINED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of ENSHRINED, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ENSHRINED will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of FLASH FAMOUS and URBAN DANCER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
TASHIDELEK and NAMJONG PLUS were sent for sampling.
<24/9/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>URBAN DANCER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. URBAN DANCER was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D A Hayes this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, URBAN DANCER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
<24/9/2020 Jockey M L Yeung>At the Happy Valley racemeeting conducted last night, Jockey M L Yeung pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding and was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 19 October 2020 on which day he may resume race riding. During the inquiry, Jockey Yeung requested the Racing Stewards defer the commencement date of the suspension to commence on Wednesday, 14 October 2020. During this period, two Hong Kong racemeetings are scheduled to be conducted.

Jockey Yeung informed the Racing Stewards this morning that he overlooked that he had accepted an important race riding engagement at the Sha Tin racemeeting to be conducted on Sunday, 18 October 2020.

As the Racing Stewards would have permitted Jockey Yeung to fulfil this race riding engagement had they been made aware of the commitment when ruling on the period of suspension, it has been decided that Jockey Yeung’s period of suspension from riding in races is now to commence on Sunday, 11 October 2020 and to expire on Thursday, 15 October 2020 on which day he may resume race riding. Two Hong Kong racemeetings will be held during the revised period of suspension which is consistent with the previous ruling.
