Racing Incident Report

TELECOM SMART began very awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
WINNING FEELING shifted out at the start and made contact with WHAT A LEGEND which was inconvenienced.
Soon after the start, ISLAND SHINE was inconvenienced by HARRIER JET which shifted out.
From wide barriers, HIGH RISE SOLDIER, STORM WARNINGS and WIND N GRASS were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 1150 Metres, STORM WARNINGS was shifted out away from the heels of TRIPLE TRIPLE which shifted out.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, SERIOUS LIAISON lost ground when reluctant to hold its position inside WIND N GRASS when racing tight inside that runner. TELECOM SMART, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of SERIOUS LIAISON as a consequence.
WHAT A LEGEND brushed the running rail after the 600 Metres.
When questioned regarding his riding of WIND N GRASS in the Straight, A Badel stated that the horse settled back in the field as was anticipated. He said upon straightening he endeavoured to shift out to make his run, however, due to HIGH RISE SOLDIER shifting in and ISLAND SHINE shifting out from his inside, he was forced to direct WIND N GRASS back to the inside of ISLAND SHINE to continue improving passing the 300 Metres. He said approaching the 200 Metres as he approached a run between WINNING FEELING and ISLAND SHINE, he noticed that ISLAND SHINE had its head on the side and was hanging in which caused him to hesitate as he was concerned that ISLAND SHINE would interfere with his mount. He said when he was comfortable that ISLAND SHINE would hold its line and not shift in, he commenced to ride WIND N GRASS along approaching the 100 Metres and after improving into the run between WINNING FEELING and ISLAND SHINE, he again had to stop riding approaching the finishing line as he was making ground close to the heels of HARMONY N BLESSED. A Badel was advised that the Stewards accepted that he had initially endeavoured to shift out and that after improving inside ISLAND SHINE, he had due cause to be cautious due to that horse’s inclination to hang in. A Badel was however advised that, in the view of the Stewards, he should have recommenced riding WIND N GRASS along prior to the 100 Metres when ISLAND SHINE kept a relatively straight course. A veterinary inspection of WIND N GRASS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, B Shinn stated that HARMONY N BLESSED travelled very strongly in the lead and was able to dictate at a moderate tempo. He said he felt that HARMONY N BLESSED’s finishing performance was disappointing as he anticipated that it would close off the race more strongly than it did. A veterinary inspection of HARMONY N BLESSED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HARMONY N BLESSED, HANDSOME BO BO and TRIPLE TRIPLE were sent for sampling.
