Racing Incident Report

Just prior to the start being effected, HANG’S DECISION became fractious and as the gates opened lifted its front feet off the ground and bounded in the air, resulting in HANG’S DECISION losing ground. Before being allowed to race again, HANG’S DECISION will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
From a wide barrier, LEGION OF MERIT was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the 1600 Metres, DIONYSUS COLLIN was bumped by PERFECT TO PLAY.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, PERFECT TO PLAY was awkwardly placed behind DIVINE UNICORN.
Approaching the 1300 Metres, MISTER MONTE was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of LIGHT MY DAY which shifted in.
Near the 950 Metres, SMART COUSIN was checked away from the heels of FEARLESS FIRE.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, LIGHT MY DAY was momentarily tightened for room between FULL POWER and DIVINE UNICORN, both of which shifted slight ground.
Passing the 500 Metres, DIONYSUS COLLIN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of OWNERS’ STAR.
At the entrance to the Straight, FULL POWER shifted out and was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of DIVINE UNICORN.
When questioned, A Badel (DIVINE UNICORN) stated that after obtaining a trailing position behind SMART COUSIN passing the winning post on the first occasion he was content to maintain this position as the pace of the race was acceptable. He said it was explained to him that DIVINE UNICORN is somewhat one-paced and that he should avoid breaking the horse’s momentum if at all possible. He said when the pace of the race slackened passing the 1200 Metres, he elected to shift out away from the heels of SMART COUSIN which itself was awkwardly placed behind FEARLESS FIRE rather than steady his mount as he believed that this would be contrary to his instructions. He said after shifting out away from the heels of SMART COUSIN, he allowed his mount to improve its position around the field passing the 1000 Metres and he was able to do this without having to ride his mount along. He added however that approaching the 700 Metres he was required to ride his mount forward of LIGHT MY DAY to cross that horse and shift in to race outside FULL POWER in the lead.
A veterinary inspection of MISTER MONTE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
DIONYSUS COLLIN and OWNERS’ STAR were sent for sampling.
