Racing Incident Report
As the start was effected, WINNING STEED lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin.
YEE CHEONG BRAVE began very awkwardly and shifted in towards the heels of THIS IS CHARISMA which itself began awkwardly, resulting in YEE CHEONG BRAVE losing ground.
OWNERS’ STAR shifted in on jumping and inconvenienced AMAZING NEWS.
After travelling a short distance, WAH MAY LUCK shifted in and bumped COURAGEOUS KNIGHT.
When being steadied to obtain cover after the 1600 Metres, COURAGEOUS KNIGHT proved difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions.
At the 900 Metres, OWNERS’ STAR momentarily raced tight inside THIS IS CHARISMA which got its head on the side and lay in towards the heels of COURAGEOUS KNIGHT. This resulted in OWNERS’ STAR brushing the running rail.
YEE CHEONG BRAVE also brushed the running rail near the 900 Metres.
At the entrance to the Straight, AMAZING NEWS was directed out away from the heels of TURF BRILLIANT which, when shifting to the outside of THIS IS CHARISMA, was taken out by that horse which in turn shifted out and away from WAH MAY LUCK.
Approaching the 400 Metres, OWNERS’ STAR was shifted in away from the heels of COURAGEOUS KNIGHT.
SUPERB DADDY had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.
Passing the 300 Metres, WAH MAY LUCK, which was giving ground, was momentarily steadied when crowded for room between SUPERB DADDY which shifted in marginally and COURAGEOUS KNIGHT which got its head on the side and shifted out away from OWNER’S STAR when commencing to give ground.
Near the 150 Metres, SUPERB DADDY was directed out away from the heels of THIS IS CHARISMA to obtain clear running.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of K C Leung (YEE CHEONG BRAVE), 6th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit.
After the race, it was noted that COURAGEOUS KNIGHT had bled from both nostrils.
A veterinary inspection of WINNING STEED, EL JEFE and MISTER MONTE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
OWNERS’ STAR and THIS IS CHARISMA were sent for sampling.
