Racing Incident Report

SMILING FACE shifted out at the start and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SKY GEM.
LEISURE AND GOLD shifted out on jumping and brushed SUPERB DADDY. SUPERB DADDY was then bumped shortly after the start by FORTUNE WINNER which shifted in. When bumped by FORTUNE WINNER, SUPERB DADDY shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of LEISURE AND GOLD which became unbalanced.
From a wide barrier, BARON ZEE was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
Approaching the 2100 Metres, FORTUNE WINNER became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of SUPERB DADDY after being bumped by SMILING FACE which shifted in and then was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SKY GEM. After this, FORTUNE WINNER proved very difficult to settle and shifted ground on a number of occasions and making the turn near the 2000 Metres shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of SMILING FACE. FORTUNE WINNER then shifted out further towards the heels of SMILING FACE which also shifted in.
After the 1900 Metres, SMILING FACE improved to be racing inside the heels of SKY GEM which was being steadied to obtain cover behind SUPERB DADDY. This resulted in SMILING FACE racing in restricted room between FORTUNE PATROL and SKY GEM which was then shifted out to relieve the crowding to SMILING FACE.
Passing the 1800 Metres, CABLE SPEED commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up when awkwardly placed behind OH BRAVO. Then shortly after entering the Straight on the first occasion, CABLE SPEED got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly away from LEISURE AND GOLD which resulted in MANAGEMENT FOLKS racing in restricted room approaching the 1700 Metres. CABLE SPEED then raced in restricted room for some distance between JUBILATION and LEISURE AND GOLD (C L Chau) which shifted in to resume its position behind OH BRAVO. C L Chau was told that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, principally the racing manners of CABLE SPEED passing the 1800 Metres, nonetheless he must ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for his fellow riders in similar circumstances.
Passing the 500 Metres, FORTUNE WINNER raced tight outside BARON ZEE which shifted out.
Approaching the 100 Metres, SMILING FACE shifted in towards the heels of OH BRAVO.
When questioned, K Teetan (SKY GEM) stated that he was instructed that if the pace was slow in the middle stages to commence making a forward move near the 1000 Metres and if this eventuated to commit to obtaining the lead as SKY GEM has previously raced successfully when ridden in this manner. He said he was reminded that SKY GEM is a one-paced horse that cannot make two runs in a race and therefore he was told if he did commit to going forward in the middle stages, he must continue to improve around runners and not sit outside the leader and then make another run at a later stage in the race. He added that when the pace of the race was slow after the 1100 Metres, he commenced to ride SKY GEM along and improve around runners. He said he was able to improve sufficiently to clear OH BRAVO which was racing outside the lead near the 800 Metres. He said he continued to ride SKY GEM along in an endeavour to clear FOXHUNTER WAY, however, when that horse was ridden along, SKY GEM was not able to improve sufficiently forward of that horse to cross to race on the rail, therefore he continued to ride his mount along, however, SKY GEM came under pressure passing the 500 Metres and then finished the race off only fairly. A veterinary inspection of SKY GEM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of FOXHUNTER WAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SKY GEM, MANAGEMENT FOLKS and JUBILATION were sent for sampling.
