Racing Incident Report

Just as the gates opened, FORTUNE MAKER, which had been standing satisfactorily and being held by an attendant, reared. As a consequence, the horse lost a lot of ground and R Fradd momentarily lost the use of his near side stirrup iron. Before FORTUNE MAKER can race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial (stalls test). ASIA RISING jumped awkwardly. On jumping, PRIME WITNESS threw its head about. Also on jumping, HANDBAG DRAGON stumbled. In the run to the winning post, PRIME WITNESS shifted in. This caused some inconvenience to DELIGHTFUL SPECIAL and to a lesser extent BULLISH which was weakening. Also in the run to the line, SUCCESS MAGIC hung in. When questioned, Apprentice S K Sit (KIMBER) said he was asked to ride the horse where it was comfortable. He said KIMBER left the gates only fairly and got to a rearward position, then over the concluding stages as he was of the view KIMBER was racing at its top, he decided to ride the horse out hands and heels. The explanations submitted by Apprentice S K Sit were accepted, however, he was told his riding particularly over the concluding stages had lacked purpose and in future he must endeavour to ride all his mounts out to the best of his ability whenever possible. FORTUNE MAKER was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
