Racing Incident Report

After arriving on the course, OVATION had its off side front plate refitted. TRIPLE EXPRESSO jumped awkwardly, threw its head up, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of HANDBAG DRAGON. On jumping, MASTER FAY stumbled, shifted ground and bumped the shoulders of STERLING STAR. SUPER CENTURY jumped awkwardly with its head up. Near the 1000 Metres, STERLING STAR, which was proving a little difficult to settle, got its head up and became unbalanced when checked between MASTER FAY which shifted in slightly away from KOWLOON PRIDE and BULL'S EYE which made the turn awkwardly and shifted out. Despite the significance of the check to STERLING STAR, the Stewards deemed in all the circumstances the occurrence was accidental. Near the 600 Metres, RED ZONE brushed the running rail. About the 500 Metres, BULL'S EYE, MASTER FAY and LOYAL DEVOTION raced tight inside OVATION (W Woods) which shifted to be in a position beside SPRING MILES. W Woods was severely reprimanded and told in slightly different circumstances action would have been taken against him. When the crowding occurred to LOYAL DEVOTION at about the 500 Metres, MARSHALL SPIRIT, which was following, was shifted out, this inconvenienced HANDBAG DRAGON and obliged that horse to race wider for some distance. Before the 200 Metres, SUPER CENTURY and STERLING STAR were disappointed for running between BULL'S EYE and MASTER FAY which shifted to the inside of SPRING MILES. After this, SUPER CENTURY was shifted out abruptly in an endeavour to find running. After the 200 Metres, BULL'S EYE and STERLING STAR were disappointed for running. MASTER FAY was also crowded by SPRING MILES which initially shifted in, then after the 100 Metres shifted in away from SUPER CENTURY. After the 100 Metres, MASTER FAY was accidentally hit on the head by the whip of C Brown (SPRING MILES). BULL'S EYE was not able to be properly ridden out at any stage in the Straight due to insufficient room. S Dye (STERLING STAR) said in the Straight he only obtained clear running over about the last 50 Metres and as a consequence at no stage pulled the whip and was not able to properly test the horse out. After the race, it was noted that MASTER FAY had lost its off side front plate. The Veterinary Surgeon also said MASTER FAY had sustained a wound to its off side front heel.
