Racing Incident Report

ACE OF PACE was registered to race in a ring bit. The horse was presented for today's race without this gear. Efforts were made to have the correct bit fitted. The horse proved too difficult to handle, therefore special permission was given today for ACE OF PACE to race without a ring bit. Subsequently Mr P F Yiu, Trainer of ACE OF PACE, was fined $2,000 for negligently presenting the horse to run with other than its approved gear. When the gates opened, NOBLE CHARGE stood flat-footed, took some time to jump out, as a consequence lost a lot of ground. Before racing again, NOBLE CHARGE will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial (stalls test). On jumping, GOOD MESSAGE and SILVER POWER bumped. About the 1200 Metres, DESERT STORM shifted to the inside of TELECOM PRINCE. As a consequence of this, some inconvenience was caused to MASCOT TREASURE. In the early part of the Straight, K H Ting (MONEY WINS) had his whip entangled in the rein. For a short distance near the 200 Metres, BOBO DUCK was awkward on the heels of OPTIC ELITE. When questioned, Apprentice S K Sit (MASCOT TREASURE) said he had been instructed by the Trainer to ride the horse in front as he had done when he rode it at Sha Tin late in December. He said MASCOT TREASURE jumped satisfactorily, he then rode along to go forward in accordance with the instructions, but MASCOT TREASURE did not show the pace he expected, just after the start he was crowded for room between OPTIC ELITE and TELECOM PRINCE and got much further back in the race than he would have wished. He said after getting back as he did he decided it was in the best interests of the horse to give it a chance in the run as to have gone forward sooner than he did would have meant covering a lot of ground. It was decided the explanations submitted by Apprentice S K Sit be accepted. ACE OF PACE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
