Racing Incident Report
When being unloaded from the float after arriving at the track, PRIME WITNESS bumped its head and sustained abrasions to the off side of its face. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who discussed its condition with the Assistant Trainer and it was then decided that PRIME WITNESS was suitable to race. FIBBER, which was standing awkwardly and with its head turned slightly to the off side, missed the start rather badly. When the gates opened, PRIME WITNESS bounded in the air, then just after the start made contact with BUMPER STORM. Running to the first turn, THE KING OF CLOYNE was momentarily tightened inside KING OF DANES which itself was racing tight inside SUCCESS MAGIC. OUR CLASS made the first turn very awkwardly and shifted out. About the 600 Metres, TRIPLE EXPRESSO was steadied as PRIME WITNESS shifted in slightly away from OUR CLASS to be racing behind SOLID CONTACT. After the 600 Metres, ASIA RISING attempted to shift out from behind TRIPLE EXPRESSO, but was disappointed for running between that horse and FASTEST STAR. About the 500 Metres, FIBBER and ASIA RISING bumped. On the Home Turn, THE KING OF CLOYNE was momentarily awkward on the heels of KING OF DANES and after straightening was shifted out when disappointed for running inside KING OF DANES. Throughout the race, SUCCESS MAGIC hung in. When asked about the disappointing run of KING OF DANES, F Coetzee said he had ridden the horse in its last fast work on Wednesday, this work in his opinion was very good and the horse did easy work yesterday, felt fine in its action and it was anticipated that KING OF DANES would run well tonight. He said his instructions had been to lead if he could do so comfortably, but if there was pressure from other runners to go to the front, he was to ride the horse from behind the pace. He said with the pressure that was on in the early stages, he elected to take a sit behind the leaders, but KING OF DANES was not travelling well with 500 Metres to go and shortly after that he was convinced the hose was not going to finish the race off as hoped. He did say that the stable is convinced that KING OF DANCES needs a firm track and whilst tonight's ground was good, he was of the view that the Happy Valley track generally races a little softer than Sha Tin and he said in his opinion KING OF DANES was not comfortable in the going tonight. KING OF DANES and PRIME WITNESS were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
