Racing Incident Report

On jumping, GAGNANT knuckled. CHEETAH left the gates awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the shoulder of MAGIC WIN. In the run to the winning post, MAGIC WIN had a tendency to lay out. The Stewards allowed Mr B K Ng, Trainer of FORTUNE RIVER, an opportunity of explaining the improved run of the horse. Mr Ng said the horse had been off the track for some time and subsequent to its last run the horse developed soreness in its near side front fetlock. He said the joint was blistered by the Veterinary Surgeon and since returning to work Mr Ng said he endeavoured to keep FORTUNE RIVER fresh, had galloped it once on the Riverside, once on the 1800 Metres, but had resisted galloping the horse around a bend on the All Weather Track. He said the horse had run well for Apprentice M W Leung previously and tonight he did suggest to the owners that the horse would improve, but for it to run as well as it did surprised him. Mr Ng concluded by saying after the horse had developed soreness following its last start, serious consideration was given to retiring FORTUNE RIVER. The explanations submitted were accepted. CHEETAH was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
