Racing Incident Report

Dr W H Chan, the Club's Veterinary Surgeon, examined RACE TO HONOUR this morning. He said he was unable to detect any abnormalities. The horse was obviously eating well and in his opinion it was suitable to take its place in the race. After being boxed, CHINESESPORT GLORY became fractious, reared and got its leg across a partition. After being taken out of the boxes, CHINESESPORT GLORY was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was not fit to start. Accordingly CHINESESPORT GLORY was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, CHINESESPORT will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. Just as the gates were being released, BON BON reared, came down awkwardly, then on leaving the gates bounded in the air, this resulted in H K Yim being dislodged. The Stewards delayed the declaration of Weighed-In as they were of the prima facie view that the incident which occurred cast some doubt on whether BON BON had had an unfair start. After considering all the circumstances, the Stewards were satisfied the incident was a horse-related one and as such they did not think it appropriate to exercise their powers under Rule 28(ix) to declare the horse to be a non-starter. Accordingly the placings as semaphored by the Judge were confirmed. Before being allowed to race again, BON BON will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. On jumping, FORTUNE PRIZES and AMERICAN CHAMPION came together. Near the 800 Metres, TEMMOKU was steadied when awkward on the heels of ALL THE GLORY. R Fradd (FLAGS UP) said over about the last 100 Metres he was concerned with the manner in which the horse was travelling and did not ride the horse out as he normally would. Before being allowed to race again, FLAGS UP will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of Apprentice S K Sit (TAMBORA STAR) over the concluding stages did not have a significant effect on the horse's performance, they did however advise him he must ride all mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race whenever possible. When questioned, J Egan (FORTUNE PRIZES) said in the early stages he was of the opinion he had a runner on his inside and accordingly raced away from the running rail. He explained along the Back Straight he was obliged to race in an awkward position between KOWLOON PRIDE and TEMMOKU and at one stage considered shifting behind KOWLOON PRIDE onto the running rail, but was unable to do so as RACE TO HONOUR had improved into that position. He pointed out FORTUNE PRIZES today tended to race in patches, near the 400 Metres he had to check when disappointed for running on the inside of FLAGS UP as RACE TO HONOUR shifted out. After this incident he said he had to change course to find running and go forward, particularly after the 200 Metres when FORTUNE PRIZES started to finish off strongly he had to steady and change course abruptly to avoid JAMIESON. The explanations in all the circumstances were accepted. FLAGS UP and NON SEQUITUR were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
