Racing Incident Report

On jumping, BONANZA and HONG KONG LEGEND came together. RUN AND WIN left the gates awkwardly, shifted out abruptly, this caused ROMANTIC SYMPHONY to be crowded for room and shift out. As a consequence, STINGER was carried across the heels of BONANZA and severely checked. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. On leaving the gates, BRUIN SUPREME got its head up, shifted out abruptly, this resulted in SPRING FOUNTAIN being checked. Just after the 800 Metres, BONANZA was steadied when momentarily crowded by HONG KONG LEGEND which was racing tight inside PLENTY OF LUCK. No action was taken. In the middle stages and rounding the Home Turn, BRUIN SUPREME hung out badly. Mr G Lane, trainer of BRUIN SUPREME, was told if the horse performs similarly again, action may be taken against it. Near the 400 Metres, SUCCESSFUL SPIRIT became unbalanced when awkwardly placed on the heels of ROMANTIC SYMPHONY. After this, SUCCESSFUL SPIRIT had a tendency to get its head on the side and lay in. In the early part of the Straight, SPRING FOUNTAIN raced ungenerously and hung in, about the 200 Metres was shifted out to avoid BONANZA. T Culhane (STINGER) said at no stage of the race did the horse stretch out and in the Straight he was very concerned with its action. The performance of STINGER was considered by the Stewards to be unacceptable and before STINGER can race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. S Baster (I DELIVER) explained the horse was very much on the toe at the Start, was difficult to box, then in the early stages he said the horse proved very difficult for him to settle. He went on to say in the run to the winning post I DELIVER in his opinion seemed to lose its action and as a consequence he did not ride the horse out as he normally would. Before racing again, I DELIVER will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. ROMANTIC SYMPHONY was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said ALL THE BEST had sustained a laceration to its off side hind coronet band. Subsequent to the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said he examined STINGER and I DELIVER and was unable to find any significant abnormalities.
