Racing Incident Report

BONANZA was slowly away. In the early stages, NEW DYNASTY proved very difficult to settle, pulled and on several occasions got its head up when close to the heels of ARRECTIS AURIBUS. About the 600 Metres, MR HAPPY and CONSENSUS bumped. About the 200 Metres, ARRECTIS AURIBUS was steadied and shifted across the heels of MR HAPPY, then over about the final 50 Metres, ARRECTIS AURIBUS did not have clear running. The Stewards delayed the declaration of weighed-in as they were concerned that CLASSA WIN might have gained an advantage at the start. After viewing all the available films it was established just as the gates were about to open, CLASSA WIN lunged forward and whilst its gate might have opened fractionally before the others and the horse did break clear of the other runners, the Stewards were satisfied that on this occasion it would be inappropriate for them to invoke the powers they have under Rule 12(20). Accordingly weighed-in was semaphored. F Coetzee (WINNING ASSOCIATES) explained he had been told by the trainer the horse is one paced and it should keep finding, and to ride it in a forward position. He said after being boxed WINNING ASSOCIATES was not standing as he thought it should and just as the gates opened he gave the horse a slap down the shoulder and WINNING ASSOCIATES came out from the gates stronger than he thought. He said because of this it proved difficult for him to settle and in his opinion WINNING ASSOCIATES went too hard in front, as a consequence did not finish the race off. MASTER MARAUDER was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
