Racing Incident Report

TEKON PERFECT was withdrawn on 7.12.01 on veterinary grounds (lame near fore) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter ADMIRAL (E Legrix). Before racing again, TEKON PERFECT will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. RECOGNITION left the gates very awkwardly and because of this lost considerable ground. From an outside gate, WONDERFUL LIFE was steadied on jumping, taken across behind the field to a position near the rear but closer to the rail. Near the 800 Metres, RECOGNITION was checked when disappointed for running inside HARMONY PRINCE (S Dye). On inquiry it was established that S Dye was riding with three pairs of glasses because of the conditions and about the 800 Metres was having difficulty with his vision and took one pair of glasses off. As he was taking the glasses off, HARMONY PARINCE momentarily shifted in, causing RECOGNITION to check. The check to RECOGNITION was one of some considerable significance and clearly came about as a result of HARMONY PRINCE shifting ground, however, in view of the circumstances, the Stewards considered it would be inappropriate to take direct action again S Dye, he was told however he should exercise care at all times. For a short distance near the 500 Metres, ARRECTIS AURIBUS was awkward inside THE BEST WINNER, then on straightening ARRECTIS AURIBUS was awkward on the heels of PRINCESS BEAUTY which was giving ground. About the 200 Metres, DANCING SURPASS was steadied when disappointed for running between NATURALLY KING which was weakening and SIGHT FIRST which shifted in. Shortly after this incident, DANCING SURPASS was again disappointed for running between SIGHT FIRST and HARMONY PRINCE. R Fradd (NATURALLY KING) said the horse is still very green and was racing in blinkers for the first time today. He said after the 800 Metres NATURALLY KING, which had been racing outside PRINCESS BEAUTY, was starting to give ground and was rolling about. As it shifted out slightly away from PRINCESS BEAUTY, WATCHE ME WIN (B Marcus) improved quickly on his inside and when improving B Marcus appealed for racing room. R Fradd said bearing in mind all the circumstances and the horse was well gone, and shifting a lot of ground, he had little option but to allow WATCH ME WIN to continue to improve on his inside.
