Racing Incident Report

At about 5:45 pm, it was noted there were blood stains noted on the wall of the holding stable which was being occupied by HEAVENLY WIND. The Veterinary Surgeon said whilst there were clotted blood stains on the near nostril of the horse, he also said he noted a dried wound on the near nostril of HEAVENLY WIND. He pointed out at the time of his examination there was no bleeding. The assistant trainer was advised and after the necessary consultation at that time HEAVENLY WIND was passed suitable to race. After arriving at the Start, the Veterinary Surgeon noted there was blood in the near nostril of HEAVENLY WIND and advised in his opinion the horse was unsuitable to race. Accordingly on this advice HEAVENLY WIND was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. After the race, HEAVENLY WIND was scoped by the Veterinary Surgeon who said this revealed the horse was clear in the nasal passage and he formed the view the bleeding was from a pre-existing wound under the near nostril. GOLDEN BELL left the gates awkwardly. BANK ON IT missed the start slightly and came out throwing its head around. Just after the start, BANK ON IT was checked when crowded between HAPPY ECLIPSE and KEY LARGO which on jumping shifted out abruptly away from AMERICAN WIN. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, GLORY ST PAUL'S hung out. In the Straight, SOLO hung in and about right on the winning post after making some ground was steadied when close to the heels of HAPPY ECLIPSE. D Dunn (WYNDAM ALL) said the horse had been ridden in the first two or three at recent starts, but had not been finishing its races off. He said in a recent trial WYNDAM ALL had been ridden quietly and had appeared to find the line better. Today even the horse had been drawn inside, the decision was to try and ride WYNDAM ALL off the speed. He said accordingly on jumping, he made little or no use of WYNDAM ALL and allowed the horse to find its feet. He did go on to say however in the first little bit of the race he got back further than anticipated, but running towards the 600 Metres was able to improve without making any use of the horse at all and felt at that stage he was in an ideal spot. However, he said WYNDAM ALL did not finish the race off at all and had been quite disappointing. SOLO was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
