Racing Incident Report

On arriving at the barriers, it was noted that ME FIRST had blood in its mouth. The Veterinary Surgeon said this was as a result of a small laceration to the right corner of the horse's mouth, but in his opinion it was suitable to race. DANZIG CONTINENTAL missed the start badly. UNIVERSAL GLORY jumped awkwardly with its head up. Turning out of the Straight the first time, UNIVERSAL GLORY and LYPHARD'S LAD were checked when crowded for room on the inside of EQUINE SUPREMO which after being momentarily taken in by PROJECTVISION (C Williams) continued to shift ground of its own accord. When UNIVERSAL GLORY checked, inconvenience was also caused to DANZIG CONTINENTAL. C Williams was told he must exercise far more care than this when shifting ground. About the 1400 Metres, THE RICH MAN, which was awkwardly placed, got its head up, hung out across the heels of PO ON POWER and was checked. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Rounding the turn and in the Straight, LYPHARD'S LAD hung out and at about the 200 Metres came together with EQUINE SUPREMO. In the early part of the Straight, DANZIG CONTINENTAL was checked and shifted in abruptly to avoid the heels of EQUINE SUPREMO. J Egan (SPEED AT WILL) explained he had been asked to try and ride the horse from a difficult gate where it felt comfortable in the race. He said in the early stages SPEED AT WILL commenced to hang out, was racing ungenerously and rounding the first turn he had to pull the whip on the horse to try and ensure it was stretching out properly and in an endeavour to prevent it from hanging. He said however along the Back Straight SPEED AT WILL continued to race ungenerously, was very wide and over the concluding stages dropped right out of the race. In all the circumstances, the Stewards deemed the performance of SPEED AT WILL to be unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subject to an official veterinary examination. SPEED AT WILL was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, it was reported that RAINBOW SEEKER was lame in its off side front leg. Before RAINBOW SEEKER can race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subject to an official veterinary examination.
