Racing Incident Report

TIME WELL, which was restless after being boxed, jumped awkwardly. HERO'S CHOICE, which was standing with its head slightly to the off side, was slowly away. PERFECT CHOICE missed the start, was further inconvenienced as WORD OF HONOUR shifted out abruptly. In the run to the winning post, SUPER FAIRWAY hung in, proved difficult to ride out. As a result of SUPER FAIRWAY hanging, some inconvenience was caused to MASTERKEY. When asked about the improved performance of NANNING TREASURE today when compared with its run at Sha Tin on 10 February 2001, Mr K C Lo, Trainer, explained the horse entered his stable early this season and with him has been running middle distance trips. He said after its last run he was contacted by the owner who pointed out to him NANNING TREASURE has previously shown good form over sprint distances and he would like to see the horse return to sprinting. Accordingly Mr Lo said he entered NANNING TREASURE for today's race. Since its last run, he has endeavoured to freshen the horse up and in his opinion it has improved a little. He said he had no complaints with the manner the horse was ridden by a senior Jockey at its last run, but when endeavouring to engage him again he found he was not available and accordingly he sought the services of Apprentice C H Tse who was told to ride the horse hard particularly in the early stages. Mr Lo said the way the horse had been going he did expect it to run somewhat better today, but for the horse to win as it did was a surprise to him. He concluded by saying it is now his intention to endeavour to keep the horse fresh and at least for the immediate future to restrict the horse's racing to sprint trips. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of K S Yu (NATURAL CLASSIC) in the run to the line did not in any way affect the horse's finishing position, they did however advise K S Yu that he must ride all his mounts at least hands and heels to the end of races whenever it is possible. FLYING KNIGHT was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, it was reported that FAME AND WEALTH was bleeding from both nostrils.
