Racing Incident Report

As W Woods was excessively overweight, permission was granted for Apprentice S K Sit to be substituted as the rider of TIM'S TONIC. It was established that Mr Y O Wong, Trainer of TIM'S TONIC, had engaged D Dunn for the ride and as he was indisposed following the fall last Wednesday night, it was suggested he declared W Woods. The explanation Mr Wong submitted for having declared W Woods without first consulting him was accepted. TIM'S TONIC jumped very awkwardly with its head up, as a consequence lost a lot of ground. SPRING LOVE was slowly away. LANDLORD was slow to jump. On jumping, HIGHWAY STAR shifted in abruptly and bumped the hindquarters of GOLDEN GOBLET. SPRING LOVE made the turn near the 800 Metres awkwardly, got its head up, shifted out and was checked off the heels of ARROWMINT. In the Straight, FAITHFUL ASSURANCE hung in and proved difficult to ride out. F Coetzee (MEDIC HERO) said the horse at recent starts except for its last start which was on the All Weather Track has been running over slightly more ground. Today from a difficult gate he had been instructed by the Trainer to ensure he was not on the extreme outside rounding the first turn and he was endeavouring to find a position somewhere about the middle and as has been pointed out to find cover. He said MEDIC HERO left the gates well, CLEVER CITATION which had drawn inside him remained wide running towards the first turn, as a consequence of this he felt he had no alternative but to steady, come back behind CLEVER CITATION and find a position near the rail, but as it turned out also near the rear and further out of his ground than planned. He said in the Straight when he initially endeavoured to try and go forward, he was awkwardly placed behind HIGHLIGHT and tight inside FAITHFUL ASSURANCE which was hanging in. To obtain clear running, he steadied and shifted to the extreme outside and when in the clear MEDIC HERO finished the race off nicely. It was decided on this occasion the explanations submitted by F Coetzee would be recorded. GOLDEN GOBLET was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
