Racing Incident Report

On the way to the Start, W M Lai was dislodged from HO HO. The horse only went a short distance riderless before being caught, was remounted, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the Start and he advised in his opinion HO HO was suitable to race. KEEN WINNER left the gates awkwardly and shifted out. EL KING PRAWN was slowly away. In the early stages, SOLID CONTACT proved very difficult to settle, threw its head about and shifted a lot of ground. About the 1000 Metres, SOLID CONTACT, which was racing with its head up and shifting a lot of ground, shifted in, as a consequence of this BEST LIGHT was taken in slightly and caused MERIDIAN STAR to check. KEEN WINNER, which was following, was checked in consequence. Because of all the circumstances, no action was taken. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, BEST LIGHT was held up in a pocket behind SOLID CONTACT and tight on the inside of CHEERS HONG KONG. M W Leung (MERIDIAN STAR) said he had been asked by the Trainer to endeavour to ride the horse away from the rail, then improve in the Home Straight on the outside of the field and ensure he gave MERIDIAN STAR an uninterrupted run. He said however because of the way the race was being run in the early stages, he found himself in a position towards the rear but on the rail and in the Straight had little alternative but to improve inside other runners. MERIDIAN STAR was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
