Racing Incident Report

For some distance in the early part of the Straight, HIDDEN TALENT had trouble obtaining a clear run between HONEST DRAGON which was giving ground and INDY'S GEM. About the 200 Metres, W M Lai (KINGDOM OF GOLD) dropped his whip. When asked about the improved performance of HONG KONG VITALITY, Mr T W Leung, Trainer, said the horse had been disappointing and he had tried riding the horse forward, however without success. Tonight from a gate towards the outside he said he instructed E Saint-Martin to ride the horse wherever it felt comfortable. He did point out Jockey Saint-Martin had been successful on HONG KONG VITALITY when it was with another Trainer and Mr Leung continued by assuring the Stewards that he had not in any way changed the work patterns of HONG KONG VITALITY. He said in tonight's race he hoped for success, but if HONG KONG VITALITY had again run poorly it would not have been a surprise to him. The explanations submitted by Mr Leung were tonight recorded. The Stewards intend to allow E Legrix (HONEST DRAGON) an opportunity of explaining the horse's disappointing performance tonight when compared with its winning run at Happy Valley on 18 April 2001. HONEST DRAGON and INDY'S GEM were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
