Racing Incident Report
TATTENHALL was withdrawn on 8.1.02 on veterinary grounds (wound to the wither) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter WATCH ME WIN (B Marcus). Before TATTENHALL can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. MONEY, which was being cared for by an attendant in the gates, came out very awkwardly and as a consequence lost quite a bit of ground. On jumping, THE GREATEST threw its head about, then just after the start was checked to avoid the heels of ME AND YOU (A Suborics) which shifted in abruptly. A Suborics was reprimanded and told he must exercise far more care. WONDERFUL WINNERS was slowly away. Near the winning post the first time, TELECOM PRINCE was steadied when awkwardly placed between WORLD STAR and the hindquarters of NANNING TREASURE. About the 1000 Metres, MONEY became unbalanced when awkwardly placed between DANCING SOUND which was just inside the heels of NANNING TREASURE and TELECOM PRINCE. About the 800 Metres, MONEY was steadied and shifted out to avoid DANCING SOUND which shifted in slightly. About the 200 Metres, WORLD STAR was steadied and shifted out abruptly when disappointed for running inside TELECOM PRINCE. When questioned, W C Marwing (THE GREATEST) explained he had been instructed by the trainer to ensure THE GREATEST raced outside the leader which it was anticipated would be LONGMARK. W C Marwing said as a consequence of the incident at the start he got further back early in the race than planned and he did consider riding the horse back because of this incident, but bearing in mind the specific instructions he had been given, he rode along after passing the winning post the first time to go forward and travelled outside LONGMARK. MONEY and WATCH ME WIN were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
