Racing Incident Report

TIM'S TONIC was withdrawn on 1.2.02 on veterinary grounds (lame near fore foot). Before racing again, TIM'S TONIC will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. On the way to the Start, CARRY-ON DREAMBOAT shifted ground suddenly and dislodged K H Ting. After arriving at the Start, CARRY-ON DREAMBOAT was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. The horse was trotted up and after the necessary consultations it was decided CARRY-ON DREAMBOAT was suitable to race. CASH left the gates very awkwardly with its head up and shifted out, as a consequence lost a lot of ground. The barrier performance of CASH was considered to be unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. On jumping WELLDONE KID threw its head up. Rounding the turn, FLORAL REGENT and WELLDONE KID raced close together. Just after the 200 Metres, CHUK WAY was steadied and shifted out to avoid SKYSTONE which was giving ground and hanging in. In the run to the winning post, FAITHFUL ASSURANCE shifted in towards ELITE WIN. When questioned, E Legrix (SOUNDS GOOD) said today from an outside gate it was decided the horse had to find cover. He said past experience had shown that without cover SOUNDS GOOD was almost impossible to settle. Today to get cover it was decided there was little alternative but to come to a rearward position, obtain cover and then hope for runs over the concluding stages. E Legrix said he was able to get cover, but towards the rear and SOUNDS GOOD closed the race off strongly. The explanations submitted were accepted. TOP FIT was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said TOP FIT had blood in its near side nostril. He also said the horse had sustained lacerations to both hind coronet bands. The Veterinary Surgeon conducted an endoscopic examination of TOP FIT, detected blood in the trachea and deemed the horse to have suffered a bleeding attack. Following the race, it was noted WELLDONE KID was bleeding from both nostrils.
