Racing Incident Report

DANCING SOUND was slowly away and was then checked when crowded between STAR OF TAI PO and GUSCOTT, both of which on jumping shifted ground. EXCITING TIMES left the gates awkwardly and as a consequence of this F Coetzee lost the use of his near side iron. He was however able to regain it shortly after the start. Approaching the 200 Metres, KRISTOFFERSON was disappointed for running between EXCITING TIMES and SCHOOL DAYS which was giving ground. About 100 Metres out, TELECOM PRINCE was steadied and shifted out to avoid GUSCOTT which was shifting in. In the Straight, DANCING SOUND hung in. The performance of SCHOOL DAYS was of concern to the Stewards. Before the horse can race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. When questioned, W C Marwing (C'EST LA VIE) said the horse at recent times had been restless in the starting gates and last Monday was taken to the 1800 Metres for gate practice. He said even there the horse was restless inside the gates and when they opened bounded in the air. He said the same thing happened tonight, C'EST LA VIE was restless after being boxed, then bounded in the air, as a consequence lost a lot of ground. He said at the horse's last start because of the way the race had been run, he had ridden it in front, but tonight he had been directed by the trainer to try and ride the horse in a forward position somewhere second or third, but if he found himself in front then the horse would be ridden this way. He said because of the incident at the start, he got well out of his ground and endeavoured to improve around the field from about the 700 Metres. He said C'EST LA VIE continued to make ground over the concluding stages, but in the Straight was inclined to hang in. The explanations submitted by W C Marwing were accepted. C'EST LA VIE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
