Racing Incident Report

M Cahill (SPLENDID PATROL) was fined $1,000 for negligently entering stall 4 when his allocated gate was 5. Before all runners were boxed, SPLENDID PATROL was taken out from gate 4 and re-boxed. VICTORY WARRIOR, which was steadied on jumping, threw its head about. About the 800 Metres, SPLENDID PATROL, which was pulling, shifted out slightly, causing some inconvenience to THUNDER STORM. For some distance running to the 500 Metres, SPLENDID PATROL raced tight between TAMAR and SUPER SPRINT which itself was tight just inside the hindquarters of WINNING DRAGON. Approaching the 200 Metres, INDIAN ROAD was steadied when momentarily crowded between COLOURFUL ERA and VICTORY WARRIOR which was shifting out to find running and go forward. F Coetzee (CHARIOT OF STORM) said his intention had been to ride the horse somewhere off the pace. He said CHARIOT OF STORM left the gates well, started to pull much harder than anticipated, he was unable to get back and felt he had little alternative but to go forward. He said running towards the 800 Metres he had almost crossed GRAND FIGHTER and had he been able to do so CHARIOT OF STORM may have relaxed but with GRAND FIGHTER racing keenly on his inside, he was not able to settle CHARIOT OF STORM and the horse weakened in the concluding stages. F Coetzee did say had the race been run a little differently, he was confident CHARIOT OF STORM would have performed more creditably. After the race, it was reported that INDIAN ROAD was bleeding from both nostrils.
