Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, AUTHORISED became fractious and broke through. The horse was quickly pulled up, returned to the Start and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, AUTHORISED will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. W Woods (ELECTRONIC SEEKER) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that at about the 300 Metres he allowed his mount to shift out whilst riding it along when not clear of PARADIS. As a consequence of this, PARADIS was crowded onto the hindquarters of SING A SONG, lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled and was checked. W Woods was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday 12 May 2002 and to expire on Thursday 23 May 2002 (3 Hong Kong racedays). This period of suspension is to be served consecutively with the penalty imposed at the Sha Tin meeting last Saturday. When PARADIS checked at about the 300 Metres, A CANDY, which was following, was hampered in consequence. In the Straight, SELF FLIT (W C Marwing) hung in. As a consequence of this, some inconvenience was caused to SING A SONG. W C Marwing was told in similar circumstances it is in his interests to stop riding and straighten. When questioned, B Fayd'herbe (TOUCH OF CLASS) said in recent runs the horse has been wearing blinkers and has proved very difficult to settle. He said the intention today was to leave the horse alone in the early stages, hopefully find a position somewhere about the middle. He said TOUCH OF CLASS left the gates well, he then did not ride along to hold the position, the horse dropped the bit much more than he thought it would and got further back than planned. He said he realized he was well out of his ground when considering the instructions he had been given, but did think if he had ridden the horse along, it would have over-raced and he would not have been able to settle it. He said in the early part of the Straight he was momentarily awkward behind HAPPY CHAMP and then when closing the race off strongly at about the 200 Metres, he was awkward for some time between HIN YUEN'S UNICORN which was giving ground and ELECTRONIC SEEKER which was being taken in by SELF FLIT which was hanging in. The explanations submitted by B Fayd'herbe were accepted, however, he was told his riding in the early stages had caused some concern. F Coetzee (SING A SONG) said he had hoped to be able to lead, but at no stage of the race did SING A SONG travel as he anticipated, was not able to get to the front and was beaten a long way out. He said the stable expected the horse would run competitively today and he was unable to offer any real explanation, however, he did say at no stage of the race was SING A SONG comfortable in the track conditions. SING A SONG was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
