Racing Incident Report

ACCURACY was withdrawn on 28.5.02 on veterinary grounds (lame off fore tendon) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter LITTLE PLAYTHING. Before being allowed to race again, ACCURACY will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the Start, FORTUNE SALLIAN was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said in his opinion the action of the horse in front was unsatisfactory due to stiffness and he was of the view FORTUNE SALLIAN was unfit to start. Accordingly it was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before FORTUNE SALLIAN can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. Also after arriving at the Start, G Mossé (JAMIESON) reported to the Veterinary Surgeon that the horse felt somewhat stiff in its action. However, after the Veterinary Surgeon examined JAMIESON and consulted with G Mossé, it was decided the horse was suitable to race. JAMIESON was then slowly away and was reluctant to stretch out. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said JAMIESON was lame in both front legs, more so in its near side front leg. Before being allowed to race again, JAMIESON will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. SOUNDS GOOD left the gates awkwardly and shifted out. On leaving the gates, FOREVER GOLD threw its head about. In the middle stages, FOREVER GOLD was unbalanced and shifted a considerable amount of ground. Near the 200 Metres, MANOR STAR was steadied when crowded between WINNING DELIGHTS and RENA'S WUNDERBAR, both of which shifted some ground. When questioned, S Dye (METRO FLYER) said he had been told the horse can be tardy at the start and to leave the horse alone in the early stages and make sure it travelled. He said METRO FLYER left the gates slowly, he was then able to improve his position and running towards the first turn expected to be following HAPPY ECLIPSE about midfield in what he thought would be an ideal spot. However, approaching the 800 Metres, he was momentarily crowded for room by WINNING DELIGHTS, as a consequence of this lost the position behind HAPPY ECLIPSE and got further back than he expected he would. He said when being crowded, METRO FLYER became momentarily unbalanced and dipped, but after the incident at the 800 Metres, the run he enjoyed was good, however, instead of following HAPPY ECLIPSE, he was further back and following WINNING DELIGHTS. When questioned about the improved performance of TWIN WIZARDS tonight, D Dunn said at the horse's last start at Happy Valley, the intention was to ride along in the early stages and take up a forward position. He said however TWIN WIZARDS was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages, attempted to run off on the first turn and got further out of the race than anticipated. He did point out at the previous start on 1 May 2002, from a difficult gate, TWIN WIZARDS had travelled somewhere just off the pace and in the opinion of the stable it performed creditably and it was hoped the horse would run well at Sha Tin. Tonight he said TWIN WIZARDS was getting well down in the ratings, from a bad draw, the intention was to try and find a position just behind the leader. He said however as things turned out, he travelled outside the lead, but again approaching the Home Turn TWIN WIZARDS was inclined to want to get off the track. The explanations submitted by D Dunn were accepted. LITTLE PLAYTHING was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
